House Character:
Honourable and respected. That describes House Atreides in its most essential form. Claiming an ancestry going back to the great Agamemnon of Hallowed Antiquity, House Atreides has been around for a long time, their names mentioned when talking about the Butlerian Jihad or the Battle of Corrin. Atreides is known to fight for honour and seeking the honour within a person, prefering it over rank, wealth or lineage. It is not strange to see a greater deal of common folks working under the Atreides in positions other houses would only employ nobility and those in lower positions tend to be treated better and more decent than in some houses.

Atreides' lifestyle can be described as spartan, shunning overindulgence in luxury and prefering to let all under their rule share proportionally in the luxury the empire provides them with.

History:
Atreides' name as a dynasty was established during the battle of Corrin where they stood side-by-side with House Corrino. The title and fief awarded to them would, looking back to it, be the start of a long tradition that would see a rise of Atreides in the wake of a string of Corrino Emperors. Eventually, this would grant them the title of Dukes and Duchesses on the holdings of Caladan. Over the centuries Atreides however, popular with the Landsraad shifted their allegiance more and more away from Emperors that would operate in their own interest instead of the interests of their subjects, winning an ultimate victory when they won a seat on the CHOAM Board of Directors proving the viability of pundi rice as a stable CHOAM resource.

Besides their relations with House Corrino their relations with House Harkonnen have as much influened the course House Atreides has taken over the millennia. The ongoing vendetta that has lasted over 10 thousand years has shaped the house to take the direct opposite position of the hedonistic and sadistic Harkonnen.
