House Character:
House Corrino enjoys the enormous wealth brought it by its holdings
in CHOAM and Imperial levies against the Houses of the Landsraad. The
extreme lavish conditions apparent in the Court betray the Imperium's
absolute military and monetary stranglehold it has over the
Landsraad. Many members of the Court are pure hedonists, taking
advantage of every available pleasure. The Emperor's harem is filled
with princesses and concubines of the highest birth, gifts from the
Great Houses of the Landsraad. Intrigue in the Court is typical.
Every member of the Royal Family is constantly aware of the
possibility of assassination attempts, be it chaumas, chaumurky, or
an assassin's knife in the back. Desire to assassinate members of the
Royal Family could come from both without and within. It is not
unheard of for a son to desire the Lion Throne before his time: the
Corrino Noble must be ever vigilant against attempts on his life.
History:
House Corrino was formed at the Battle of Corrin in 88 BG, when Count
Sheuset Ecevit (afterward Emperor Sheuset Corrino I) defeated the
Landsraad army in a space battle near the Corrin Quasi-Nebula. This
victory secured House Corrino's position on the Imperial Throne.
Since then, the Imperial House has carefully balanced its own power
against that of the Landsraad and the Guild. Over the last thousand
years, until quite recently, the Corrino Emperors have enjoyed long
reigns of relatively stable conditions. In 10,079, Fredhrick XIX was
coronated. His reign was cut short, however, by the untimely crash of
an ornithopter in 10,081, resulting in the death of the Emperor,
Empress and their two heirs. The political fallout from the accident
was felt across the Imperium and continues even today. Fredhrick's
nephew, Jeon XIV, then assumed the throne. Despite the new Emperor's
efforts to appear as a man of the people, his rule was marked by
dissention within the Landsraad and mutterings of illegitimacy.
After several spectacular public relations failures on the part of
his Sardaukar, an unknown assailant assassinated Emperor Jeon. As
Jeon had no heirs, the throne fell to Jeon's brother Eduard, who
abdicated in favour of his son, Erich Ladislas Corrino. Coronated
Erich I, the Emperor soon after married Lady Tat'iana Rastanyev, sister of
the Siridar-Duke Rastanyev, and crowned her Empress. In early 10,099,
the Empress gave birth to twins -- a boy, Corrin, and a girl,
Anuril -- providing legitimate heirs to the throne and hopefully
establishing a clear, direct line of inheritance to end a period of
marked instability.
