House Character:
A staunch ally of tradition, there are few more conservative houses than Rastanyev, which has cultivated a starchy reputation. Largely suited to agricultural productivity, massive Garrashu VI is an ideal planet from which to base themselves, with an official capital in Vladstock and a spiritual capital on Tsarkoye island. Primarily an economically-minded house, Rastanyev holds the lucrative CHOAM contract on pharmaceutical (narcotic) production on Ecaz. They boast a moderate military force, wherein the individual soldier is referred to (in Russkiy) as "cossack." Politically, Rastanyev declares neutrality, but has been accused of all too often aligning itself with Corrino. It is worth mentioning that not only is the Empress Tat'iana Corrino Garrashun-born. The people of Garrashu VI subscribe to the Modern Orthodox faith, which is unique to their planet.

History:
The Garrashu system began to be exploited by Igor Rastanyev under House Major Lador in 6076 AG, but the Earldom of Rastanyev was not established until 7002, under the Earl Michel. The heirless death of the sitting Earl in 8534 AG ushered in a period of years known as the Great Unrest, during which Rastanyev lost everything but Garrashu itself while its people suffered long years in civil war. When the nobility stabilized in 8592 under the Viacheslav Rastanyev, it was united into a body of council known as the Duma. The prosperous modern period of Rastanyev has been marked by a series of abbreviated reigns: Constantine IX Rastanyev, Valeri Rastanyev, Ivanova IV Rastanyeva, Josef Rastanyev-Stalinsky, and Mikhail Stalinsky “Rastanyev.” Ekaterina Rastanyeva has seen the house raised by the goodwill of His Majesty to a loyal Duchy.
