Liathon Razed by Imperial Sardaukar
RL Date: Sun Aug 19 01:08:06 2001

A grainy filmbook clip shows a horrifying scene. Thick black smoke rolls across a desolate landscape of burned out buildings and heaps of jagged rubble. In the background, the ancient and once lofty towers of the Castle Liathon are recognizeable, but have sustained substantial damage.

In the foreground, flames lick up a pile of twisted charcoal-black corpses. Men in standard Imperial Army livery, their faces completely covered with heavy gas masks, throw new bodies on top of the burning pile.

A reporter's voiceover describes the carnage:

"For the past five days, four legions of His Majesty's Sardaukar Shock Troops have laid waste to Liathon. They descended in Imperial crusher ships without warning, and have utterly demolished the military forces of House Venhei and its vassal Houses Minor here on the planet. No news access was allowed until today, when crews were permitted to land shortly after the last Sardaukar units were withdrawn and replaced with soldiers from the 3rd Imperial Army.

His Majesty, whose exact whereabouts have not been determined, has remained silent on the motivation behind this attack. More news as it becomes available."

Judge of Change Found Dead
RL Date: Sun Jan 13 15:47:13 2002

Two weeks ago, the Lord Baronet Christian Hohstauffen, brother of Baron Hohstauffen of House Hohstauffen, was found dead in an abandoned mineshaft on the planet Boonta 2, along with his escort. According to the official investigation carried out by the Suk School of Medicine, the Lord Baronet was killed by a rockslide and his death was likely instant and painless. Lord Baronet Hohstauffen was assigned by the Lion Throne as the Judge of Change for the mining-based dispute between House Benta and House Naziri. This conflict has been going on for 400 years now and has, in the past, led to countless vendettas and wars of assassins.

According to the official report, the fact that this tragic event occurred in a stable mineshaft in an area devoid of any tectonic movement and of risk of avalanches, earthquakes or any other natural calamities seems highly suspicious. Another conspicuous detail noted by the forensic experts sent by the Emperor and House Hohstauffen is that a sizable residue of explosives was found amongst the debris. With House Hohstauffen now demanding an explanation for the Lord Baronet's death, initial reports indicate that both Viscount Jaromir Benta and Lord Kalif Hassan Nazir are blaming each other.

Dateline: Zhanzai nAudrim 28 10100, Imperial Standard Calendar

Lord Wilhelm Christian Falkenberg, Count Moritani and Baron of Nicanor, died yesterday when his motorcade was caught in the inferno resulting from a traffic accident inside the Elrood II Memorial Tunnel. He was 40 standard years of age.

Count Moritani is survived by his wife of six months, Lady Ophelia Gabryela Moritani, Siridara-Contessa of House Moritani, and their unborn son. He is also survived by a sister, Lady Jenissa Falkenberg, and an uncle, Lord Werner Falkenberg.

In addition to being recently espoused to the Countess Moritani, Lord Falkenberg also served within House Moritani as Chancellor and Mentat, and head of House Minor Falkenberg. Under his command were the 38th Dragoons Legion, a fighting force of men from the continent of Nicanor on Grumman who were recently brought into the public eye as being instrumental in the search and rescue of the Countess from her captors on Arrakis.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced, though the Countess yet remains on Kaitain. She has, however, withdrawn to the Palazzo Moritani outside of the city. Statements released from House Moritani state that visitors and expressions of condolences are to be directed to the embassy on Kaitain.
