Re: Fwd: FW: FRIENDS AND NAILS

I normally don't forward stuff like this onto others
but I thought this one was particularly powerful and
something to reflect upon.

temper. One day his father gave him a bag of nails
and told him that every time he lost his temper he was
to hammer a nail into the back fence. The first day
the child hammered 37 nails into the fence. As time
went by the child started to calm himself, as he
discovered that it was easier to control his temper,
than to hammer nails into the back fence. Finally the
day arrived when he completely controlled himself and
his temper, and did not hammer any nails into the
fence. When the child proudly told his father about
his accomplishment, the father suggested that every
day in which he continued to control his temper he
should remove one nail from the fence. The days
passed until one day, the child announced that all the
nails had been removed from the back fence. The
father then took the child by his hand, walked over to
the fence with him and told him. "Son, you have done
well and I am proud of you. But look at the fence and
all the holes you have put in it. The fence will
never be the same again. When you say or do things
while being angry or in the middle of a temper fit,
YOU leave a scar, such as the holes in this fence. It
is like stabbing someone with a knife, even though you
pull out the knife, the scar will remain forever. No
matter how many times you ask for forgiveness or are
forgiven the scar will remain. And a verbal wound is
just as grave as a physical one. Friends are like
precious stones which you have to appreciate. They
smile at you and encourage you to be a better
person....they listen, share a word of
encouragement...and always have their hearts open to
receive you." Many people will walk in and out of
your life, but only true friends will leave footprints
in your heart.
