Thanks for responding to some of the posted questions. Here are responses to some of your comments:

Assassins. Wasn't Gurney Halleck the individual that was saved from the slave
pits of House Harkonnen?"
Duncan says only that his "sword was first blooded on Grumman," not that he never served the Atreides before that.
Yes, Gurney was saved from the slave pits (as you will see in Book 2), but Duncan was also abused by Harkonnens, as described in numerous instances in GOD-EMPEROR and HERETICS.
Hope this has helped to clear up the confusion.
