Morgen walks in from Lobby through the Gilded Arches.
Morgen joins the Ginaz pew.
Meeting Chamber -- CHOAM Headquarters (Kaitain)
A horseshoe shaped room, all CHOAM shareholders meetings take place
here. A table sits at the open end, reserved for the Houses Major that
serve as CHOAM Directors. Behind and above this table, at the head of
the room, is the Corrino table. There is another area above the floor
in
the corner to the right and below the Corrino table. It is the place
where the Spacing Guild keeps watch on the gathered Shareholders.
Around
the horseshoe on various levels are pews for the remaining Great Houses
that are shareholders in CHOAM.
Players:
Ballinore Merkavah (ginaz)
Cesare (directors) Morgen (ginaz)
Gabriel (rastanyev) Tolben (guild)
Joral (corrino)
Exits:
Gilded Arches <W> leads to Lobby -- CHOAM Headquarters (Kaitain)
Cesare smiles at the arriving Marquis and gives him a polite and
respectful bow of the head.
Morgen returns the smile and tilt of head to the Count taking his seat.
Niccolo walks in from Lobby through the Gilded Arches.
Niccolo joins the Moritani pew.
Nils walks in from Lobby through the Gilded Arches.
Morgen looks to Nils from his seated position smiling and nodding to
his
partner in decripedness.
Steffan walks in from Lobby through the Gilded Arches.
Steffan joins the Ginaz pew.
Nils shuffles in quickly, acknowledging Morgen and Cesare with regal
nods. He hurries to the open end of the room and takes his place at the
table.
Cesare gives a rather wry grin to the Viscount Alvstad, the kind often
given at the execution of a private joke.
Ballinore joins the Corrino table.
Nils joins the Directors table.
Cesare mutters to Nils, "... antsy this evening."
Joral looks around at the assembled House nobility.
Nils mutters to Cesare, "How does... usual?... late,..."
Nils mutters to Cesare, "... does that differ... of... Guild's only
policy... the... of... three..."
Cesare mutters to Nils, "Indeed.... against... CHOAM in the... about
the
profits... furtherance."
Tolben raises a hand to the aide who presently is speaking to him. As
the aide, without an emotion, ceases and goes back to his notes, Tolben
begins to slowly raise himself from his chair. When he stands fully
erect, he bows to the assemblege before him, making eye contact with
each of the various Siridars strewn about the room, "Lords." He
straightens, and half-bows to the Corrino table, "Representatives of
the
Imperium," before turning back to the main audience, "This meeting of
the Shareholders of Combine Honnete Ober Advancer Mercantiles is called
to order."
Tolben raises a hand to his mouth and clears his throat as the room
grows quiet.
Tolben lowers his hand and picks a flimsy piece of tranlucent paper
from
in front of him, "We shall begin the meeting by announcing the actions
voted upon by the Board of Directors during this fiscal year."
Joral smiles slightly.
Cesare mutters to Nils, "I'm... burst... announcing... got Essen. That
man's so... and anal,... needs... a... that..."
Ballinore crosses his arms as he leans back in his padded seat,
watching
Cesare and Nils with a slight show of distaste.
Merkavah places his medkit on the floor of the chamber, sits back and
begins to observe.
Tolben again clears his throat, but his voice is still phlegmy, "First,
the awarding of contracts." He lowers his sheet and nods to pages
stationed about the room. They begin to weave among the tables
distributing large roughly bound tomes, "The complete listing is
contained in the Statement of Awards being distributed. However, there
are a number of contracts of special mention."
Joral takes on of the first of the large books and opens it.
Nils glances around at the numerous empty tables--Atreides, Autumn,
Harkonnen, Sharolah, Venhei--and shakes his head, sadly.
Cesare takes the book distributed to him and starts to pour over its
entries, skipping around and evidently searching for specific entries.
Joral puts his on an open page and returns his attention to the
Guildman.
Morgen taking the book and setting it in his lap a scowl journies
across
his face.
Nils opens the book and, moistening a finger with his tongue, begins to
flip through, page by page. He glances up at Tolben's announcement,
nodding.
Morgen taps his fingers against the report his gaze wanders the room
for
a bit then focuses on Nils.
Cesare gives a tight, teethless smile as the Guildsman announces the
first major awarding.
Ballinore forms a frown upon his face at the mention of the Harkonnen's
recieving the Basal contract, this causes him to glance over in the
direction of there pew.
Tolben looks back down at his sheet, "The contract for metaglass mining
on Colivvoh B has been awarded to the House Vehnei."
Steffan looks at Morgen, his father with disappointment.
Nils mutters to Cesare, "... than he should.... keep... when...
investigation..."
Merkavah leans over and attempts to comfort Morgen.
Cesare mutters to Nils, "Agreed...."
Cesare mutters to Nils, "... I wouldn't... surprised... set off... bomb
himself... to..."
While still looking down, Tolben continues, "The Fides-3 contract has
been awarded to the House Alvstad..." He glances up at the Alvstad
Siridar before dropping his eyes to the paper.
Nils turns to page 105, passes the book to Cesare and, chuckling,
indicates the Marquis with his head.
Cesare chuckles at the Alvstad's observation.
Joral taps his fingers on the open book.
Morgen's gaze shifts from Nils to Cesare a smile crossing his lips a
twinkle in his blue-grey eyes, he stands and departs.
Morgen leaves the Ginaz pew.
Morgen walks to the west and passes through the Gilded Arches.
Merkavah grabs his medkit, stands and leaves the pew, heading for the
Gilded Arches.
Merkavah leaves the Ginaz pew.
The Guild Director takes a deep breath and visibly sighs, "And one more
award of note this period, the Board has decided to award the Essen
contract to the House..." He looks up to Morgen, "Ginaz."
Merkavah walks to the west and passes through the Gilded Arches.
Merkavah walks in from Lobby through the Gilded Arches.
Merkavah joins the Ginaz pew.
Nils' chuckle becomes a laugh as the Marquis Ginaz leaves his place and
storms out, not hearing Tolben's announcement.
Cesare stares at the Guildsman, his eyes narrowing curiously.
Tolben watches the Ginaz Siridar disappear just as he finishes his
words. He stands silently a moment, looking about the room trying to
guage any reaction from the assemblege.
Merkavah stands. "My Lord, the Siridar-Marquis was a bit distressed
over
the loss of the Basal contract. I am sure he will feel better after he
takes a walk." Merkavah, nods to House Moritani, and retakes his seat.
Nils mutters to Cesare, "... famed..."
Cesare mutters to Nils, "Indeed."
Cesare frowns deeply at the Ginaz Suk Doctor.
Gabriel remains quietly seated, his face betraying only a faint sign of
amusement.
Mintor walks in from Lobby through the Gilded Arches.
Joral mutters to Ballinore, "Appears House Ginaz are ungreatful...
Majesty's efforts."
Mintor joins the Atreides pew.
Merkavah stands once more. "My Lord, I must leave to see if the Sridar
Marquis is alright. I will return, I hope."
Cesare raises a sharp reddish eyebrow at the tardy Atreidean Na-Duke.
Merkavah takes his medkit, departs from the pew and leaves the room.
Merkavah leaves the Ginaz pew.
Merkavah walks to the west and passes through the Gilded Arches.
Tolben stares at the Suk for a moment in a bewildered silence. After a
moment, his brow furrowed in confusion rises as a broad smile crosses
his face and a chuckle shakes his thin body beneath his robes.
Joral walks to the west and passes through the Gilded Arches.
Joral walks in from Lobby through the Gilded Arches.
Tolben shakes his head and laughs gently to himself as the next Ginaz
retreats, "The Announcement of Awards carries an addendum announcing
new
contracts that have been approved for auction during the next period.
Please review them for bids and awards to be announced next year at
this
time.
Joral bows deeply to the assembled nobles.
Nils mutters to Cesare, "... Ginaz wanted... refuse to... then...
awarded. Most distressing !"
Tolben takes a moment to gather himself, his eyes water from the
amusement, but it seems close to tears of another sort, "Well, I
believe
that covers announcements from the Board?" He looks towards the
Director's Table.
Joral walks to the west and passes through the Gilded Arches.
Cesare gives a slight, terse nod to the Guildsman.
Steffan leaves the Ginaz pew.
Tolben nods back, "There are no scheduled motions from the
Shareholders.
Therefore, I open the floor to new motions from the Shareholders."
Steffan joins the Ginaz pew.
Cesare mutters to Nils, "... I think... just... in... Basal back,
the...
ingrates!"
Tolben scans the room. He mumbles to himself, "No wonder such a thin
turnout..." He takes a deep breath, "Last call for motions from the
Shareholders?"
Mintor shifts slightly in his seat, a bland smile on his face.
Gabriel lightly taps his finger still on the surface of the pew. He
scans the room slowly, looking from face to face.
Cesare frowns and moves his gaze across the room, staring quizzingly at
the pews of the Shareholders.
Nils licks a finger and turns the page of the tome to the Agenda, and
holds the book up to catch Tolben's attention. He points at an entry in
the middle of the page, annoyedly.
Cesare mutters to Nils, "... something."
Tolben lifts up one of the pages from his table and frowns at it, "Ah,
Director Nils reminds me that I have neglected to mention a motion the
Board wishes to bring to the Stockholders."
Nils mutters to Cesare, "... how to read, apparently."
Cesare mutters to Nils, "Yes.... can trust... put... least... into...
important positions."
Nils mutters to Cesare, "... glad..."
Tolben glances towards the source of loud, not-so-subtle whispers below
him, "I guess the novelty of the Board bringing something like this to
a
vote before the holders distracted me." He holds the paper at arms
length and speaks as if the words leave a bad taste in his mouth...
Cesare mutters to Nils, "... think... should... having... one of
those... evening.... that."
Cesare scowls at the Guildsman's bitter reproach.
Ballinore watches in curiousity now, brows furrowed at the actions of
the Guildsman. His arms remain crossed and set against the tabletop as
he waits.
Niccolo falls rapidly to the ground with eyes closed, and begins to
snore
Niccolo stirs and pulls his conciousness up out of the depths of sleep.
Tolben says, "The Board of Directors asks the Shareholders, the
assembled
owners and proprieters of CHOAM, to vote 'Yea' or 'Nay' upon the
following matter. It has come to the attention of the Board that the
procedings of their meeting on nAlmanim 26, 10091 may have become known
by several of the Houses Major before being properly announced at the
meeting of the Shareholders. The Board wishes the authorization of the
Shareholders to initiate an investigation of potential leaks,
surveillance, or other illegal and unethical means of obtaining
economic
information derived from knowledge of the Meeting of the Board of
Directors before its release to the Shareholders.""
Mintor looks puzzled. After a brief pause, he raises his hand to gain
the attention of those running the meeting.
Tolben lowers the sheet of paper and looks over the gathering, "To
paraphrase, the Board wishes the blessings of the Shareholders at large
to investigate possible security breaches to the deepest level within
CHOAM. I can only assume the Directors believe a very public
investigation will surely unveil any corruption, no matter how high,
before those involved can take action to cover their trail." The
Guildsman casts a glance towards the Directors table.
Cesare looks to the Viscount Alvstad.
Tolben looks around at the rather confused and many dazed faces,
"Shareholders and their proxy agents, please enter your votes and pass
them to the pages."
Mintor clears his throat "A point of order?"
Cesare jots down something and hands his paper to the page behind his
chair.
Mintor clears his throat again and raises his voice a bit louder "A
point of order?"
Ballinore continues to stare up at the Guildsman, a faint look of pitty
in his face as he scribbles somehting down on the flimsipad in front of
him before passing it on to his aide who scurries up to the Directors
and hands it over.
Nils writes three letters down on a notecard, folds it, and hands it to
a page.
Steffan scribbles down his vote after thinking for a moment. Then
passes
the ballot to the page.
Nils mutters to Cesare, "... na-Duke..."
Tolben casts a curious glance the way of the young Atreides, "The chair
recognizes the Na-Duke Artreides."
Cesare nods to Nils.
Mintor stands, a grin on his face "Gentlemen, my thanks. Is it
permitted
to ask questions before the vote?"
Gabriel writes down on the small piece of paper and folds it up neatly.
He pauses in handing it to the page to listen to Mintor speak.
Cesare blinks several times indignantly at the na-Duke's request and
shakes his head slowly.
Nils glances at the na-Duke and writes something down in his notes. He
shows the tablet to Count Moritani and taps the entry with his pen.
Tolben shrugs, "It depends on the question, na-Duke Atreides."
Mintor continues to grin though the expression shrinks away from his
eyes. "I find the motion to be vague in the problem it raises, and in
the solution proposed. Further I am a bit distressed at the suggestion
that no justification need be offered nor any discussion permitted."
Mintor looks directly to the board and waits for a response.
Cesare looks deferringly to the Prime Director.
Nils circles the entry in his notes, and adds an addendum right below
it.
Tolben chuckles, a snort of disgust accompanying it, "Really, na-Duke?
I
find it most irregular that the Board has decided that it requires the
opinion of the general population of Shareholders to undertake such an
important and sensitive investigation. I am distressed that the entire
endevour may have just been sabotaged by the Board's choice in how it
vigorously persues fairness and protects its rules." The Guildsman
loses
the edge in his voice, "But you must agree, this arena is not the place
to attempt an investigation. The Shareholders are merely asked to
approve the initiation of such an investigation. Any findings will be
brought again before the Shareholders. Then will be the time for debate
before this body."
Cesare smiles and for once nods in agreement with the Guildsman.
Mintor turns a smile to the Guildsman "I think your comments to be
directly on point, sir. If there is thought of corruption within CHOAM
then it is the duty of the Board to pursue it, shareholder approval be
damned."
Tolben smiles at the na-Duke letting his eyes roll over towards the
Board table, "You may make a valuable Director someday, na-Duke Mintor
Atreides. If I may be so bold." The Guildsmen bows, perhaps more deeply
than is called for, to the heir of Caladan, "Now, do we have all votes?
More debate on this matter?"
Mintor smiles briefly then says "House Atreides abstains."
Mintor sits.
Cesare mutters to Nils, "... appears... the... crusading...
replacements, eh?"
Cesare shakes his head, "I think we are ready to vote and hear the
results, Prime Director."
Gabriel watches, mulling on the matter for a few moments as he regards
Na-Duke, then hands his vote to the page finally.
A page goes up to the Guild table, whispers to one of the Guildsmen who
rises and speaks to Tolben...
Nils mutters to Cesare, "... of... seemed... in... than the opinions
of... He... has... down... that of... Board.... be..."
Cesare mutters to Nils, "... quite."
Tolben loudly and flatly states, "The motion passes. 1163 votes to
286."
Tolben looks to both sides as his aides take copious notes and minutes,
"_Now_... that matters on the Agenda are complete, do we have motions
from the floor?"
Tolben glances about, an incredulous edge on the question in his voice,
"No motions from the Shareholders?"
Gabriel remains silent as he looks around at those assembled on the
room.
Mintor picks an invisible speck from the leg of his trousers.
Tolben looks to the Directors, the Corrino table, and then to the Great
Houses of note, "In that case, Noblemen, Shareholders, and trusted
Proxy
Agents, this meeting is adjurned."
Mintor rises and gathers his gear.
Steffan stands and eyes the directors table for a moment before
departing.
Mintor leaves the Atreides pew.
Steffan leaves the Ginaz pew.
Tolben falls back into his chair, the aides on either side close in and
begin to take turns speaking in rapid whispers.
Nils pauses before departing in order to confer quietly with the Count
Moritani.
Steffan walks to the west and passes through the Gilded Arches.
Nils walks to the west and passes through the Gilded Arches.
Niccolo walks to the west and passes through the Gilded Arches.
Mintor offers a halfbow to the director's table and a nod the the
Guildsman before turning to the door.
Mintor walks to the west and passes through the Gilded Arches.
Niccolo walks in from Lobby through the Gilded Arches.
Gabriel walks to the west and passes through the Gilded Arches.
Niccolo stands by the door
Niccolo walks to the west and passes through the Gilded Arches.
