Traffic Loop -- Harkonnen Embassy (Kaitain)(#644RntJ)
A plascrete roadway loops in a semicircle in front of the Harkonnen Embassy.
Ground traffic busily fills the loop, picking up and discharging passengers.
In the center of the loop is a huge granite statue of a springing ram
greeting all who enter. Ten flagpoles, each flying a large blue banner,
tower over the area.

(Kaitain)
An angry crowd has gathered in the Traffic Loop before the gates of the
Harkonnen Embassy.
Seamus points his camera at the crowd, "This is Seamus Meaney, Shigatone
News."
A group of grim-faced Harkonnen Familiar Guards watch from the walls of the
Embassy, observing. One sergeant speaks urgently into his communicator.
Seamus barks into his mic. "I am standing here in front of the Harkonnen
Embassy, on Nagara II Plaza on the Imperial Planet."
Seamus speaks into his communicator.
A Shigatone News Staffcar pulls up near Seamus.
The guard sergeant lifts a megaphone and speaks clearly from the top of the
wall. "PLEASE CLEAR THE SCENE. RETURN TO YOUR HOMES."
Seamus gets jostled by a banner-carrying couple. "There seems to be an rare
street protest here. The Harkonnen guards are out, but they are
outnumbered."
The banner says, "Down with the anti-Conventionalists!"
Seamus films the megaphone sergeant from a distance. An unmarked armored car
is visible in the background.
A chant begins, "GODS BELOW, WE WON'T GO!"
The fanmetal gates of the Embassy slide shut with a metallic grind, and two
of the guards move to securely bolt it.
Seamus yells over the din of the crowd, "This reporter has never seen
anything like this."
Protesters shake fists at the closing gates.
The sergeant with the megaphone warns, "YOU ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO BE IN THIS
AREA. PLEASE DISPERSE PEACEFULLY."
Another chant competes with the first one, "They murder and raid, but
Harkonnen are afraid!"
Seamus, ducking for cover, scuttles over to a shouting man, "Excuse me,
excuse me! Can I ask you a few on-record questions?"
One of the younger guards raises an angry fist and shouts, "Afriad of
nothing, you Bajazet toady!"
The man grins and waves into the camera lenz
Seamus says, "Why are you streetprotesting? What are you mob-demands?"
Seamus jerks his camera to safety as someone tosses a beach ball his way.
The chant builds, "GODS BELOW, WE WON'T GO!"
The man says in a loud voice, "We demand, the retraction of Harkonnen troups
from Malarca, and a strict observance of the Great Convention!!"
The Harkonnen guards look about, anxiously, flicking safeties off their
slow-pellet stunners and muttering about 'riot gear'.
The man joins in the chanting.
Seamus pans the camera over the guards, "The guards seem to be ready to
fire. One of their number has accused the Great House Bajazet of inciting
this riot."
He turns back to the angry man, "What say you to that J'accusation? Are you
in the employ of the Bajazet?"
The man joins in the chant with even more gusto. "GODS BElOW...!!"
Seamus speaks up, "Sir? Am I being outyelled?"
A Harkonnen courtier in civilian clothes waves off the Harkonen guards,
urging them to calm. The guards form sullenly into a wedge near the
shuttered gates, watchful and wary.
The megaphone voice warns, "RETURN TO YOUR HOMES. NOTHING TO SEE HERE."
Seamus narrates the scene, "The Great House Harkonnen guards are being order
to a holdpattern. But the crowd keeps sloganshouting." He holds his
microphone above his head and elbows he way through the mass of
demonstrators. Occaisonly his cmaera is blocked by a placard or banner.
The reporter grunts as he is swatted in the head by a sign saying something
about slig-fondlers.
Seamus yells into his mic, "The demonstrators seem to be growing
increasingly rowdy..." He is hit in the shoulder by a flying peice of
garbage.
The Harkonnen soldiers ignore the journalist's plight, since freedom of the
press is hardly one of their interests. A few point and laugh at the fellow.

Some of the crowd begins jostling and moshing ensues, driving that area of
the crowd into a frenzy.
Seamus wipes his shoulder with his hand, as he makes a disgusted face. He
sidles closer to the guards, all the while sticking his camera into the
faces of a few demonstrators. "Can I get a comment?.... Ouch.... I have a
follow-up."
There's a roar and a cloud of choking smoke, and a huge staffcar flying a
Baronial insignia edges through the crowd. A squad of guards escorts it on
foot slowly clearing a path through scowls and intimidation.
Seamus crouches to get a good shot of the staffcar. "We seem to have
activity from inside the Embassy."
Some of the demonstrators appear enraged at the smoking car. Companions try
holding them back, in their destructive demeanor.
The crowd chants, "BARON, BARON, WHADD'YA SAY, HOW MANY KIDS DID YOU KILL
TODAY?"
The staffcar stops as some of the demonstrators throw themselves before it
in an attempt to stop it. The driver, behind shaded windows, honks his horn
urgently, but to no avail. A huge bodyguard angrily steps forward, raising a
club to clear the way.
Boris emerges from the staffcar, face red with anger, "Damned Bajazet
vermin!" he roars. "Don't they clean the streets of Kaitain anymore?" He
shakes a walking stick at the crowd.
The crowd starts yelling the names of their varying nationalities toward
Boris.
Seamus pushes through the crowd and approaches the Siridar. "Baron
Harkonnen, Baron Harkonnen! Seamus Meaney, Shigatone News: Care to comment
on this situation?"
Seamus shouts to be heard above the din.
Boris aims a furious glare at the newsman from the running board of his
staffcar. "I'd say there should be an investigation! Look how Bajazet
threatens public order, instigating such a riot!"
The crowd chants, "BARON, BARON, WHADD'YA SAY, HOW MANY KIDS DID YOU KILL
TODAY?" Some people are replacing the word "kids" with "sligs" and the word
"kill" with something quite rude.
Seamus pans the crowd, then back to the Baron. "Will you order your troops
to fire on these people?"
Seamus adds, belatedly, "My Lord Baron?"
Boris snaps at Seamus, "You're damned right I will!" To the crowd he
bellows, "And if you've an ounce of sense, you'll flee now! We know what to
do with demonstrators on Giedi, eh?" He shakes his head, puffing out his
cheeks, "If we're not careful, soon this whole Imperium will be overrun with
bleeding hearts, begging for human rights and--democracy!"
Someone yells, "GO BACK TO THE SLAVE-PITS, FATTY!"
At the Baron's words, the guards snap to attention, forming shoulder to
shoulder. The air crackles with the sounds of shield generators being
switched on, and weapons powering up.
The megaphone voice warns, "<CRSSH!> NOW OR BE <CRSSH!> DISPERSED! THIS IS
YOUR LAST WARNING!"
Someone screams, "This is imperial property!! We have the right to
assemble!!"
Seamus looks into his camera himself and yells, "It looks like the Harkonnen
guards will start riot-policing soon! The question on everyone's mind is:
will they use deadly force on a public throughofare?"
Boris shouts back, grinning broadly, "And I'm a Baron of Harkonnen, and I've
the right to cut you down like sligs!" He says into the camera, "Damned
journalists. Why can't you do something useful for once, eh? Like finding
out who put them up to this! Poke around in Haroon's business a while, eh?
Instead of allowing this rabble to have their way..."He looks like he's
about to take Seamus by the collar, so incensed is he.
The crowd continues to hld the Plaza, growing more united in its sloganning.
The Harkonnen guards fall into position, well drilled. One fires a warning
blast of pellets, on full automatic, over the heads of the crowd.
Seamus ducks.
Seamus elbows past the crowd, trying to find a safe vantage point.
The megaphone voice warns, "SURRENDER. <CCRSSH!> ARE NOW UNDER ARREST BY
LAWFUL AUTHORITIES."
Seamus tries to crouch behind the umarked staffcar, but it wheels away.
Some of the crowd backs away from the Harkonnen guards.
The Baron chuckles and ducks back inside his staffcar, which grinds forward,
churning smoke and gravel in its wake.
As the guards advance they lay into the nearby demonstrators with abandon,
aiming for heads and faces to cause the most blood and injury. Truncheons
rise and fall with the sickening sound of metal slamming into human flesh.
Seamus sets his oillens on wide-angle and tries to follow the movements of
the phalanx of guards. He is far away enough from the din to give a
journalistic fake-whisper.
Seamus says, "We have arrived at the truth-moment."
The camera captures one of the demonstrators, who seizes the Baronial
insingia from the Harkonnen staffcar and grind it under his heel, laughing
in triumph.
The sergeant with the megaphone intones, "SURRENDER. YOU ARE NOW UNDER
ARREST."
Seamus focusses in on the trampled standard, planning to use it as his
lead-in image for the newsreel.
The reporter slowly pulls back from the area, filming all the while.
Protesters scatter, dragging injured along with them. Some hold their
ground, however.
A citizen's band on Meaney's comm bleeps, "Caid's units 3 and 7, enroute to
disturbance at Harkonnen Embassy."
Seamus hides behind a tree on the edge of the traffic loop, and keeps
filming.
A huge all-terrain vehicle, bearing the markings of the Imperial Army, with
a turreted firehose on top, comes screaming up the street, Sardaukar
warriors in riot gear are clinging to the top and sides. The turreted
firehose swivels and aims at the Harkonnens and protesters alike.
The angry man from the first interview runs in soggy panic, half blown along
by the forceful spray.
More protesters flee at the sight of Imperial troups.
The Baron's staffcar clears a path through the crowd and makes an escape
across Negara Plaza, in a cloud of foul smoke.
The Sardaukar take control of the situation, shoving back the Harkonnen
guards, cuffing the protesters. One Sardaukar fires a stunner dart at the
sergeant with the megaphone. The man topples behind the wall of the Embassy.
Imperial Ornithopters fly close overhead, swooping and shifting in the
Kaitain sunlight.
Seamus continues to film, completely hidden in some bushes behind a tree.
